Rovos Rail
The nostalgic and luxurious Rovos Rail takes its guests back to the early 1920s, when the well-heeled and nobly dressed Europeans boarded the new train.
It all began when Rohan Vos bought an old locomotive from a scrap dealer in 1987 and lovingly restored it. Today, there are seven locomotives running on steam, oil or electricity. The "Capital Park" station in Pretoria, also restored by Rovos Rail, is the home of the locomotives and also the private station for all arrivals and departures from Pretoria. Every Pretoria arrival and departure is guided by a steam locomotive, for old times' sake.
The wood-paneled and air-conditioned carriages house a variety of facilities including a dining car, lounge, cigar lounge, observation car and the restaurant, where chefs prepare first-class menus.
