Accommodation
Abu Camp offers bright, elegantly furnished rooms with a sprinkling of antique furniture; stylish black and white photographs adorn the walls. All six rooms come with en-suite facilities, comprising a shower and outdoor bathtub. Comfortable lounging sofas on the private veranda offer a haven where guests can lay and listen to the soft sounds of the Okavango Delta.
With its central oversized termite mound, the delightful main building houses a fantastic bar, lounge, and various dining areas, where guests can sit and enjoy spectacular views while savouring exquisite meals. The camp's swimming pool is generously sized and the gym is equipped with a treadmill, cross trainer, weights and yoga mats. The library contains plenty of interesting reading material. WLAN and a guest computer are also available for use.
Location
Abu Camp is situated in a private concession (180'000 hectares) in the western part of the Okavango Delta, bordering on the floodplains of Jao to the north. The camp is encircled by water during the floods (approx. March until September), when the surrounding area becomes particularly paradisiacal.
Wildlife
Several species of antelope, giraffe, buffalo, big cat and of course wild elephant may be encountered. Hippo love to bask in the hippo pool located right in front of the camp.
Activities
Discover the pure and unadulterated wilderness of Abu in a mokoro or in a 4x4 vehicle. Motorboat and fishing trips are also part of the range of activities on offer. Please note that elephant interaction is no longer possible as the elephants are integrated into wild herds.
Good to know
The camp was named after the bull elephant “Abu”, who was shipped to Botswana from an American zoo by Randall Jay Moore. Abu's splendour and incredible character have shaped the history of the camp.
