Accommodation
Each of the 10 bush pavilions features a private dining area, a tranquil outside seating area and a terrace pool. The rooms are climate controlled with en-suite bathrooms, indoor & outdoor shower, bathtub and floor-to-ceiling windows that are perfect for absorbing the surrounding plains and majestic African skies. The design of the camp is certainly not as spectacular as some of the other premier camps in the Okavango Delta, but apart from Mombo Camp this is one of the very few options for a safari on Chief's Island.
The main area includes the dining area, a lounge, bar and library area. In front of the main deck there is a round boma area with an open fire place. The swimming pool is located at the far side of the main building. A new orientation room where guests can learn more about the Delta before going on game drives has been added as well as a gym and kids play room.
Location
Chief's Camp is located on the northern tip of Chief's Island in the Moremi Game Reserve. The Moremi area was declared a protected area in 1963 by the widow of Chief Moremi III in his honor and expanded in various stages, including the addition of Chief Moremi's former royal hunting ground, Chief's Island, in 1976. The reserve now covers around 30% of the Okavango Delta, is subject to strict conservation conditions and has one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in Botswana.
Chief's Island is the largest landmass in the Okavango Delta, and home to an incredible variety of wildlife. Chief's Camp closes neighbour is Wilderness Mombo Camp.
Chief's Camp is only accessible by light aircraft. The private airstrip is located just 2 km from camp, the transfer into camp takes about 40 minutes. Flight time to Maun in a Cessna Caravan is 25 minutes, and 1 hour 30 minutes to Kasane.
Wildlife
The game drives around camp are usually very productive. Lion, leopard, cheetah and hyena are encountered on a regular basis, hippo and crocs are found in the channels and lagoons where elephant and buffalo like to take a mudbath.
Activities
Game drives in open 4x4 vehicles. As Chief's Camp is located in the Moremi Game Reserve, night drives are not permitted. Activities start at sunrise and end shortly after sunset. Mokoro (dugout) excursions if water levels permit (seasonal).
