Duba Explorers Camp
Okavango Delta
Accommodation
Duba Explorers Camp is made up of five expedition-style tents of light airy canvas on slightly raised decking, each with views of the surrounding floodplain. Each tent has a small desk and private verandah plus en-suite facilities consisting of flush loo, double basins and indoor shower.
The main area is under sweeping marquis canvas, on raised decking and consists of an open-concept dining and lounge area which opens to the outdoors on all sides. In the evenings, the fire pit is always a popular spot to enjoy an Amarula and recount the day’s events.
Access is via a long wooden bridge that crosses the channel in front of the camp. The camp is a crossover of Zarafa Camp and Selinda Explorers Camp. A quite unique plunge pool, built on the back of an old lorry, stands right by the water and offers both refreshment and a view of the passing elephants.
Location
The camp is situated in the northern reaches of the 33'000 hectare Duba concession and surrounded on all sides by pristine Okavango Delta. The camp sits quite a distance from the original Duba Plains camp.
Duba Explorers Camp is only accessible by light aircraft, normally to Duba's Omdop Airstrip and from there by helicopter in 5 minutes directly to the camp. Flight time to Maun in a Cessna Caravan is 30 minutes, and 1 hour 20 minutes to Kasane.
The premier Duba Plains Camp is the choice for guests who look for a true luxury option in the original Duba Plains area.
Wildlife
Guests of the camp enjoy regular sightings of a diverse range of species, including lechwe, kudu, tsessebe and giraffe. Herds of elephants and buffalo move around the camp and hippo trudge through the swamps creating their channels and paths daily. Lion, leopard, hyena and sometimes wild dogs, on exploration from the Vumbura side, make up the group of hunters.
Activities
Game drives in custom built 4x4 vehicles. Night drives. Walking Safaris. Boat trips and mokoro are possible when the water level is high enough. Game drives usually venture into the northern part of the concession, including the NG23a area.
As the camp is located in a private concession, night driving with a searchlight and off-road driving for special animal observation is allowed. Close-up shots are guaranteed.
