Accommodation
Kanana is located in a pretty corner of the Okavango Delta and offers a reliably good safari experience in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
Guests are accommodated in eight spacious safari tents with en-suite bathroom, set on raised decks. Families are accommodated in a two-bedroom tent, sharing one bathroom with the addition of an outdoor shower. The tents are well spaced and offer good privacy. The main area is reached via sandy pathways. You will walk pass Kanana's pool area that could be used for a refreshing dip on hot days.
The main area is built around an impressive strangler fig tree and includes a large communal dining table and lounge areas in both wings. It opens towards the floodplain where extended decks provide space for outdoor dining and a romantic swing sofa. A staircase leads down to a sandy patch and a fire pit where guests like to meet and have a drink before dinner.
Location
Kanana Camp is part of the private NG 27A concession, located in the southwest of the Okavango Delta, bounded by the Boro and Xudum rivers and bordering the Moremi Game Reserve. The concession benefits from access to the waters of the Xudum River and supports a good populations of game all year round and superb water based activities during the flood season. It is a pretty area, dotted with lots of palm trees typical for the southern parts of the Okavango Delta.
Kanana Camp is accessed by light aircraft. Flight time to Maun in a Cessna Caravan is about 20 minutes, and 1 hour 30 minutes to Kasane. Driving time from the local airstrip to Kanana Camp is approximately 10 minutes.
Wildlife
Wildlife can be very good, with frequent predator sightings such as lion, leopard and wilddog. Elephant, buffalo, kudu, impala, giraffe, bushbuck, lechwe, zebra and wildebeest can be ticked off on your game drives and hippo and crocodiles inhabit the river channels and lagoons.
Activities
Kanana Camp can usually offer both water and land activities all year round: Game drives, walking safaris, boat cruises, mokoro, and seasonal fishing (Mar-Dec only). Game Drives are conducted with not more than 4 guests per vehicles, ensuring a window seat for everybody.
The Sleep Out Deck offers guests the opportunity to spend the night out under the magnificent African night sky. Situated about 20 minutes from camp, your accommodation for the night is a 2-storey treehouse that features a bathroom on the first level and a double bed on the open-air top-level deck. Your guide will sleep close by for your safety.
The concession is home to a seasonal heronry, one of the largest in Southern Africa, that is best visted from July to October. The heronry plays host to herons, egrets, pelicans, cormorants, darters, marabou storks and both glossy and sacred ibis.
As the camp is located in a private concession, night driving with a searchlight and off-road driving for special animal observation is allowed. Close-up shots are guaranteed.
