Selinda Explorers Camp
Okavango Linyanti
Accommodation
Selinda Explorers expands the range of experiences available in Botswana by offering a place where guests can canoe on the Selinda Spillway. This small and intimite camp with only four tents (one being a family tent) has been moved from Tanzania's Selous Game Reserve (Nyerere NP) and introduces a touch of Swahili chic to Botswana.
The camp’s style is as simple as it is luxurious and comes equipped with all modern conveniences, including hot water and electricity. The tents stand on the ground and are not raised on plattforms as it is usually done in Botswana.
The centre of the camp is formed by the lounge and the dining tent, which stand under large, shady trees. In the evening, dinner may be taken under the stars around the camp fire. The many paraffin lamps and the flickering fire create a romantic, adventurous atmosphere in the midst of the African bush.
Location
Selinda Explorers Camp is situated on the banks of the Selinda Spillway, which connects the Okavango waters and the north-easterly Linyanti and Kwando rivers during high floods. The water flows in either one direction or the other direction, depending on the water level. The land is so flat that some years have seen it flow in both directions! The environment is made up of various habitats, chiefly large open plains, ensuring a fantastic variety of wildlife.
Selinda Explorers Camp is part of the private Selinda Concession (1,350 km²). Selinda Camp, Zarafa Camp and Okavango Explorers Camp are also part of this concession.
Wildlife
Huge herds of elephant roam the Selinda region during the dry season. They prefer to be close to the permanent waters of the Linyanti River and the Zibadianja Lagoon from July to October, when they surge onto the flat Selinda Plains from the mopane wooded hinterland.
The Selinda region is known for its resident lion and wild dog. The open plains also attract cheetah, which are often seen here. Very large herds of buffalo, leopard, hippo, crocodile, giraffe, zebra and many antelope may also be encountered.
Activities
Canoe trips, bush-walking, game drives in open 4x4 vehicles.
