Selinda Suite
Okavango Linyanti
Accommodation
The Selinda Suite consists of a two-bedroom tented suite. The Selinda Suite operates exclusively, as guests enjoy their own private vehicle, safari guide, chef, manager/butler and entrance to their residence. Set in one of the most pristine wilderness areas left on our planet, Selinda Suite rests on the banks of the Selinda Spillway, as it enters the Linyanti River. The private 130,000-hectare Selinda Reserve boasts elephants by the thousands, regular sightings of the Selinda pack of African wild dogs as well as the famous Selinda Lion Pride recently feature in the National Geographic film “Birth of a Pride” by Dereck and Beverly Joubert. The area has a sense of remoteness, a true spirit of Africa, and is a great example of Botswana bush embodying a variety of species and rare animals.
Location
Selinda Suite is situated on the Selinda Spillway, which connects the Okavango waters and the north-easterly Linyanti and Kwando rivers during high floods. The water flows in either one direction or the other direction, depending on the water level. The land is so flat that some years have seen it flow in both directions! The environment is made up of various habitats, chiefly large open plains, ensuring a fantastic variety of wildlife.
Selinda Suite is part of Selinda Camp and is only accessible by light aircraft. The suite is located approximately 25 minutes drive or boat journey (depending on the water level) from Selinda Airstrip. Flight time to Maun in a Cessna Caravan is 40 minutes, and 45 minutes to Kasane.
Wildlife
Huge herds of elephant roam the Selinda region during the dry season. They prefer to be close to the permanent waters of the Linyanti River and the Zibadianja Lagoon from July to October, when they surge onto the flat Selinda Plains from the mopane wooded hinterland.
The Selinda region is known for its resident lion and wild dog. The open plains also attract cheetah, which are often seen here. Very large herds of buffalo, leopard, hippo, crocodile, giraffe, zebra and many antelope may also be encountered.
Activities
Game drives in open 4x4 vehicles, night drives. Bushwalking from camp or vehicle is usually possible. Boat trips depend on water levels, but are usually possible during the dry season.
Because the suite is located in a private concession, night driving with a searchlight and off-road driving for special animal observation is allowed. Close-up shots are guaranteed.
