Shinde Footsteps
Okavango Delta
Accommodation
Shinde Footsteps originally had a clear focus on walking safaris, but now offers the full range of activities that make the Okavango Delta so unique. Despite having four tents, Shinde Footsteps only accommodates a maximum of six guests at any given time, ensuring an intimate and exclusive safari experience for its guests.
The camp has retained its charming character and explorer-style focus and it's size makes it ideal for exclusive use for small groups or families. The four simple yet comfortable canvas tents on decks each comprise an ensuite bathroom, indoor and outdoor shower and porcelain wash basin. In addition to the three twin/double tents there is also a family tent with two bedrooms and a shared bathroom.
Shinde Footsteps’ main area includes a dining tent and lounge plus a room where photographers can do some photo editing and re-charge their camera equipment. The open fire pit is located on the beach between the dining and lounge tents looking out on a permenent hippo pool.
Location
Shinde Footsteps is part of the private Shinde Concession (91 km²). The concession is relatively small compared to other concession in the Okavango Delta, but offers a very diverse habitat.
The concession lies in the north of the Okavango Delta and shares a boundary with the Kwara concession to the north, the world famous Moremi Game Reserve to the east and the Moanachira river system to the west.
Shinde Footsteps is accessed by light aircraft. Flight time to Maun in a Cessna Caravan is about 30 minutes, and 1 hour 30 minutes to Kasane. Driving time from Shinde Airstrip to the camp is approximately 1 hour 30 minutes.
Wildlife
The area is home to an astounding array of animal and bird life, including lion, hyena, leopard, cheetah and wild dog. Herds of elephants also frequent the area, as well as buffalo, giraffe, zebra, sitatunga, lechwe, impala and hippos.
Activities
Shinde Footsteps can offer both water and land activities year round. Motorboats or Mokoro are used to explore the unique aquatic habitat of the Okavango Delta. Game Drives, guided walks and fishing (seasonal) are also available.
Because the camp is located in a private concession, night driving with a searchlight and off-road driving for special animal observation is allowed. Close-up shots are guaranteed.
