Xigera Safari Lodge
Moremi Game Reserve
Accommodation
Xigera Safari Lodge (pronounced "Keejera") is an exclusive water camp in the Moremi Game Reserve. Situated on what is known as "Paradise Island," Xigera is indeed like a tropical-looking paradise. Surrounded by permanent flood water, hidden under majestic trees are 12 suites, each individually decorated and named after a native tree (Fan Palm, Mangosteen, Knobthorn Suite etc...) One of the 12 suites is an imposing family suite with two separate bedrooms and bathrooms. All suites (184m2) are extremely spacious and luxuriously designed with a bedroom, bathroom (indoor and outdoor), lounge and dressing area. A large, private deck offers as much outdoor space as indoor with a shaded gazebo and king-size daybeds to relax on.
The main area consists of several open buildings with curved canvas roofs. At the very front sits the main tent with an impressive lounge and deck overlooking the Xigera Channel. A wooden walkway on stilts winds its way to the circular viewing deck, where a fire is lit in the evening and where guests usually end the day with a drink on cushioned seating. Slightly set back from the lounge, the dining area adjoins with an extensive wine cellar. Next to it is the original library with a TV corner where documentaries are shown. Behind the main tent you will find the souvenir store and the boma with impressive cast iron sculptures. On the other side of the main building - also located on the waterfront - is the spa area with swimming pool, deck with sun loungers, treatment rooms and a long walkway reaching into the lagoon to a water lily platform, the landmark of Xigera.
Xigera promises not only culinary delights but also showcases a remarkable collection of contemporary art from southern Africa. Over 80 African artists have contributed their works, including Porky Hefer, Andile Dyalvane and Peter Mabeo from Botswana. The Okavango Delta was the source of inspiration for the art and design of the lodge, with small and large details reflecting the distinctive plant and animal life of the area.
Location
Xigera is located on the western edge of the Moremi Game Reserve in the heart of the Okavango Delta. The camp can only be reached by small aircraft to the nearby Xigera Airstrip. From the airstrip to the lodge it is a 15 minute drive.
Wildlife
The water world around Xigera is fascinating and the landscape beautiful. Watch crocodiles, hippos, frogs and a variety of birds as you glide through the water on a boat or mokoro. Special highlights include the water-loving Sitatungas, Pel's Fishing Owl, African Skimmer, Slaty Egrets, Wattled Cranes and several other rarities often seen around Xigera. On the game drives keep an eye out for lions and leopards and the big mammals like elephants and buffaloes.
Activities
Xigera is famous for its water activities like mokoro rides and boat safaris. However, daily game drives are of course also offered and can be planned individually and in a very flexible manner. Catch and release fishing, guided walking safaris, as well as bush lunches, boma dinners, yoga classes and massages are also part of the daily activities.
Good to know
The Baobab Treehouse is a 10m high sleepout platform for two people, located about 1km from the lodge. We recommend to book the Baobab Sleepout in advance.
