Tuli Block
Little known region in eastern Botswana
Known for its many baobab trees
Mountain biking and horseback safaris
The Tuli Block is situated in the eastern tip of the country. The region encompasses several private reserves, most notably the Mashatu Game Reserve and the Tuli Game Reserve.
The Tuli Block is sandwiched between South Africa in the south and Zimbabwe in the north and east. It is different in many ways from Botswana’s other safari regions: the landscape here is rocky, craggy and ravined, and the red sand is studded with large baobab trees. In a country where almost everything is flat, the Tswapong Hills and Lepokole Hills jut out of the landscape like mountains. They are home to a large number of rock paintings.

Various rivers cut their course through or border the region, in particular the Limpopo, the Shasha, the Motloutse and the Majali. The Tuli Block is abutted to the north by two further reserves, namely the Tuli Safari Area in Zimbabwe and the Mapungubwe National Park in South Africa, which is soon to become part of the Greater Mapungubwe Transfrontier Conservation Area.
Access is usually by vehicle from South Africa via the Pont Drift border crossing. An alternative is a flight in a small aircraft to Limpopo Valley Airfield.
Because the Tuli Block is a series of privately owned farms, night drives and other special activities, such as mountain biking and horseback safaris, are allowed.
