Bataleur Camp
Maasai Mara

Accommodation
Bateleur Camp by andbeyond is divided into two camps (North and South), each with nine guest tents. The North and South camps each have their own restaurant and swimming pool. This makes guests‘ stay more intimate, despite the rather large number of rooms.

The interior of the tented suites exudes a classic elegance with fine antiques and wonderful fabrics in rich natural colors. The glass-enclosed bathroom features indoor and outdoor showers, as well as a freestanding bathtub that offers views of the seemingly endless sky. The private terrace is furnished with a comfortable sofa lounge. The only family room is located at the end of the North camp.

Location
Bateleur Camp is located (together with Kichwa Tembo Camp) in the private Kichwa Concession, which is just north of the Mara Triangle of the Maasai Mara. The Kichwa area is not large, but offers privacy and the possibility of guided bush walks and candlelight dinners under the stars in the middle of the bush, which would not be allowed in the National Park.

Kichwa‘s own airstrip can be reached by plane from Nairobi in about 45 minutes.

Wildlife
The Maasai Mara is home to one of the highest concentrations of big cat in Africa and more than 50 species of raptor. Lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, buffalo and elephant are high on the must-see list of most visitors here, and it is indeed the most likely place to get a snapshot of all of them.

Additionally, July sees the arrival of the first ca. two million wildebeest, zebra and Thompson’s gazelle that migrate from the Serengeti to feast on the fresh green grass of the Maasai Mara. They remain until September, when they make their way south again towards the Serengeti. The animals traverse the Mara River, where hungry crocodiles lie in wait for their prey, a spectacle known as ‘river crossings’.

Activities
The Bateleur guides will take you on game drives in their own concession, as well as in the actual National Park. Guided bush walks will take place in the private concession. Hot-air-balloon rides can be booked additionally. Children of all ages are welcome at Bateleur Camp.
