Segera Retreat
Laikipia Plateau

Accommodation
Set in the heart of Laikipia, one of Kenya’s most exciting safari locations, Segera stands for absolute luxury and bespoke service, an exquisite venue for the perfect romantic escape or family holiday.

The five Garden Villas are raised on wooden decks, have views out across the savannah, and compromise one bedroom with en-suite bathroom and outside deck. Beneath each Villa lies an outside lounge and comfortable swing-bed. The Family Villa offers one double and one twin room, each with an en-suite bathroom and a shared lounge and deck area, outside lounge and two swing-beds.

In the heart of the garden, surrounded by climbing bougainvillea tendrils, sits the Garden House, a two-bedroomed, double-storey house with a beautiful kitchen, double volume lounge and an incredible outdoor stone bath.

Villa Segera is the perfect romantic hideaway for two to for guests, consisting of two creatively assembled wooden buildings connected by a bridge, with large en suite bedroomŝ, private dining area, a generous salt-water swimming pool and a lounge area decorated with fine antiques and artworks. If the Villa Segera is booked for only two guests, one of the rooms is turned into a lounge area.

Segera’s signature villa, ‘Segera House’, features all of the usual villa highlights and more. Ornate North African crafted doors swing open into a double volume reception area, jeweled with dramatic chandeliers and an open plan lounge. The indoor lounge areas spill out onto an outdoor living area with private garden and deliciously cool plunge pool. The villa features three bedrooms with en suite bathrooms with vies out across the savannah from beneath a thatch-fringed roof.

Catching the first sun rays in these beautiful early moring hours, the Farmhouse has a particularly beautiful location. It offers space for 4-5 persons in three en-suite bedrooms. In front of the house there is a large garden with a pool and outdoor lounge. The farmhouse can be combined with the Villa Segera for larger groups, as the they are neighbouring each other and are connected by a small path.

The two bedroomed Green House also faces the sunrise with dappled views out towards the wild foothills beneath Mount Kenya. Both bedrooms have elegant en-suite bathrooms, a double volume shared dining table and lounge.

Location
There are scheduled flights from Nairobi Wilson airport to Nanyuki Airstrip (35 minutes), followed by a road transfer between Nanyuki and Segera in a closed vehicle (2 hrs). A charter flight from Nairobi to the Segera airstrip would take approximately 45 min to 1hrs, depending on the plane type.

The retreat is set in a private game reserve of 50,000 acres. The Segera wildlife sanctuary is situated in the wooded savannah and grasslands of the Laikipia Plateau at an altitude of between 1'700 and 1'800 meters. Due to the high altitude of the retreat, Segera is malaria free.

Wildlife
During a safari on Segera, you can expect to see herds of elephant and buffalo, predators such as lion, leopard or cheetah, plains game including multiple species of antelope and zebra, important populations of Reticulated giraffe, Lelwel’s hartebeest and sometimes our protected endangered species of Grevy’s zebra, Patas monkey and African Wild Dog.

Activities
Day and night game drives, picnics and sundowners, hides / lookout points, guided walks, camel walks, interpretive tour of the private art collection, tour of botanical garden, sleep outs, cultural visits with local communities. There is also a wellness centre with a gym and spa. All activities are flexible and can be tailor-made to guest requirements.

We also recommend a walk with the rangers and the bloodhounds, who are part of Segera's Antipoaching Team. One of the guests is hiding in the bushes and the bloodhounds pick up the scent 30 minutes later and follow the trail of the 'culprit'. A very entertaining family activity.

At an additional costs, Segera offers picnic lunch and game viewing day trip to Samburu / Buffalo Springs / Shaba, fixed wing charter flights to the Matthews Range & Mount Kenya, helicopter excursions to Mount Kenya, the Aberdares or the Great Lakes (Baringo / Nakuru, Turkana), etc.

Good to know
Built alongside a river teeming with wildlife, the NAY PALAD Bird Nest offers a unique concept of nesting and sleeping like a bird – set above the ground, with a 360 degree birds-eye-view of this beautiful wilderness. With one fully-equipped bathroom, the Bird Nest is technically designed to sleep two guests, but a cosy family would also be welcome – for example the parents may choose to sleep in the shelter of the first floor, but children would love the adventure of sleeping out on the top deck.
