The Serian Mara North Camp is small and intimate with just seven tents, one of which is for families. The camp sits on an elevated strip of ground above the Mara River and enjoys views of the Oloololo Escarpment in the distance. The tents are raised atop platforms, which link the bedroom to a separate, external bathroom.
For those looking to experience sleeping outdoors in the wilderness, we recommend the Nest Treehouse, which is situated slightly north of the camp. A night in the treehouse requires advance booking.
The Serian Mara North Camp is not a luxury camp, but has the advantage of offering all guests a private vehicle.
The wildlife in the Mara North is fantastic and exciting game drives are guaranteed. The number of vehicles is naturally much lower than the publically accessible Maasai Mara Game Reserve.
The camp is reached by air from Nairobi Wilson via the Mara North Airstrip; flight time from Nairobi Wilson is approximately 45 minutes
Additionally, July sees the arrival of the first ca. two million wildebeest, zebra and Thompson’s gazelle that migrate from the Serengeti to feast on the fresh green grass of the Maasai Mara. They remain until September, when they make their way south again towards the Serengeti. The animals traverse the Mara River, where hungry crocodiles lie in wait for their prey, a spectacle known as ‘river crossings’.
The camps offer game drives during the day and night and bush walks. Guides are allowed to leave the tracks in the Mara North Conservancy, which means very close animal encounters are possible.
Game drives take place in the Mara North Conservancy, but also cross into the actual Maasai Mara Game Reserve, which is particularly popular during the Great Migration. It is not unusual for guides to pack breakfast and lunch and spend the whole day out with guests to witness one fo the River Crossings. Night drives are allowed in the private conservancy, but not in the game reserve.
