Suyian Lodge
Suyian Conservancy, Laikipia

Accommodation
The Suyian conservancy houses one lodge, Suyian Lodge, named after the African wild dog in the local Maa language. Suyian is opening its doors in July 2025.

The lodge offers extraordinary views of the granite kopjes and vast plains below, including glimpses of the Ewaso Narok River to the east and Mt Kenya in the distance. Each of the 14 spacious suites (180m²), constructed as if part of the unusual natural rocky formation, blends seamlessly into its surrounds. An outdoor terrace, featuring a private plunge pool and viewing deck, boasts magnificent sunrise views for early risers.

Accessed by a winding stone path, the lodge’s entrance courtyard opens onto a large circular, central bar (The Samburu Bar). There are various indoor and outdoor dining areas, including the chef’s table in the house kitchen, a private dining room, and the option for guests to dine in-suite, on their private terrace. Learn more about the region’s wildlife and surrounds in the library with built-in fireplace. A rim-flow swimming pool offers the perfect respite from the hottest hours of the day.

Located on the edge of the escarpment, tucked away from the guest suites, sits the lodge’s wellness centre. There are two treatment rooms, each with a private shower, changing area and veranda, plus an additional steam room with a cold plunge pool. The compact state-of-the-art gym is situated close to the main guest area and features both cardio and strength training fitness equipment. Connected to the gym is a spacious outdoor shaded yoga studio offering twice daily yoga sessions for groups or individuals.

Location
There are scheduled flights from Nairobi Wilson airport to Loisaba Airstrip (45 minutes), followed by a 1-hour vehicle transfer to Suyian Conservancy. Private charters fly directly into Suyian’s private airstrip.

Suyian Conservancy is located in Laikipia County in central Kenya. Forming part of a much larger conservancy picture, Suyian shelters approximately 17,806 hectares of prime wilderness and conservation land. The conservancy offers a vital wildlife movement corridor between Laikipia and the northern conservancies.

The retreat sits at an altitude of around 1'855m.

Wildlife
Suyian is not only home to some of Africa’s most iconic species such as elephant, lion, cheetah and leopard, but also presents the opportunity to encounter rarely seen wildlife, such as the Beisa oryx, Grevy’s zebra, gerenuk, African Wild Dog, reticulated giraffe, striped hyena, Laikipia hartebeest, desert warthog and more than 260 bird species.

The area is also home to some very rare black leopards.

Activities
Day and night game drives, guided walks, camel and horseback safaris, cultural visits with local communities, picnic and river swims, catch & release fishing, yoga sessions, gym.

What was once an area of huge lievestock ranches, today Suyian combines conservation practices with community development creating a safe space for people and wildlife to coexist. Spend the morning with local herders and your guide, walking the cattle on rotational grazing rounds. There are approximately 2,500 to 3,000 cattle that form part of this unique biodiverse ecosystem.

Suyian is also a gateway to more remote adventures, such as helicopter safaris and visits to the Northern Frontier region of Kenya, including Samburu, the Matthews Range and the Endoto Range, Lake Turkana and the fabled Suguta Valley.
