Nairobi
Kenya's capital
Largest city of Kenya
Starting point of all fly-in safaris
Nairobi was created in 1896 as deopot for the construction of the railroad line that would connect Uganda with the port of Mombasa. The place quickly developed into a respectable city. Today Nairobi has a population of about 5 million people. Unfortunately, the infrastructure has not really kept up with the pace, the roads are poorly maintained and chronically congested.
The Karen district in the south of Nairobi is named after the Danish writer Karen Blixen. Many of the accommodations we book are located here. The location is ideal, as both the international airport and the local airport Wilson are relatively easy and quick to reach. Those who spend more time in Nairobi or have to wait can visit the Karen Blixen Museum, the work of the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust with the Elephant Orphanage near Nairobi National Park, or the Giraffe Center.
