Damaraland Camp
Damaraland
Accommodation
Damaraland Camp offers ten thatched, adobe-style units in a modern interpretation of a traditional construction. The stylishly furnished rooms are distributed around the main building. Each is equipped with en-suite facilities and a large veranda, which comes into its own during the clear and starry desert nights. The main building is light and airy and houses a swimming pool, a bar and a lounge where guests can read, relax and unwind.
Location
Damaraland Camp is located in the Huab River Valley in the northwest of Namibia, approximately midway between Khorixas and Palmwag. It can be accessed by air or by car (20 minutes from the C39). The approach road is signposted for 4x4 vehicles; access in 2x4 vehicles also possible when the weather is dry.
Damaraland is spectacularly beautiful, craggy and rugged with open plains. The whole landscape takes on a green hue after rain has fallen; a sight best viewed from above when arriving at the camp by air.
Wildlife
Damaraland is less a classical safari camp offering the chance to see large herds of animals, and more about simply enjoying the beautiful desert and mountain landscapes. That said, there are a number of desert elephant, giraffe, zebra, oryx, kudu, springbok, and even cheetah and black rhino in the region. Lion also roam the area, but these are not easily spotted.
Activities
The camp offers trips in a 4x4 off-road vehicle in search of desert elephant, mostly in the Huab River Valley. An alternative excursion takes guests to the springbok river valley further north. A walk atop a neighbouring hill offers spectacular views of the surroundings. Walks can be extended if desired.
