Dolomite Camp
Etosha West
Accommodation
Dolomite Camp was opened in 2011 and sits atop a hill commanding spectacular far-reaching views of the surrounding area. The chalets are a clever mix of bush tent and modern living space, widely distributed over the hilltop. Each chalet has a small veranda, its own bath and shower, hairdryer and safe. Several rooms or Deluxe Chalets are slightly larger, each with its own small plunge pool. The camp's facilities include a really beautiful, spacious infinity pool with loungers and lounge cushions, where guests can sit back, relax and gaze into the distance. There are also two restaurants and a bar/lounge. Reception, where guests are welcomed, is located a little further downhill. A buggy transports you and your luggage from the car park to reception, before taking you on to your room.
Location
Etosha National Park is Namibia's premier safari destination. Covering almost the same area as Switzerland, Etosha is one of the largest national parks in Africa. To the west of the park lay the silvery white salt pans and adjoining waterholes, which magically attract a myriad of wildlife during the dry season.
Dolomite Camp is situated in the western part of Etosha National Park, which was closed or allowed limited access (until 2011) but is now fully open to mainstream tourists since 2014. Located about an hour from the western entrance (Galton Gate), Dolomite Camp is the first camp to be built in this area.
Wildlife
Hartmann's mountain zebra (white belly) is only found in the western part of Etosha National Park. Giraffe, elephant, kudu, oryx, hyena, lion, jackal and warthog etc. may be encountered. Rhino can also be seen and visitors have a good chance of observing one of these endangered animals.
Activities
Game drives with local guides at extra cost, or self-drive. There is a route from the camp to Galton Gate and the way to the eastern part of Etosha is also very interesting, with several beautiful waterholes located on open plains.
Good to know
Dolomite Camp is a government camp run by Namibian Wildlife Resorts (NWR).
