Gmundner Lodge
Khomas
Accommodation
Markus Friesacher, the owner of Austrian Gmundner Keramik, the oldest European ceramics manufacturer, opened this lodge in 2022. Less than an hour from the capital Windhoek, the Relais & Châteaux member promises luxury, hospitality and culinary delights. With a nod to the luxurious safari camps of adventurers from another era, its 12 suites are housed within large tents. Inside, expect teak flooring, elegant Persian carpets, Chesterfield armchairs and drawers in the shape of travel trunks, walk-in closets and large four-poster beds. Each suite also offers a spacious terrace as well as a luxurious indoor and outdoor bathroom with a free-standing bathtub.
In addition to a tennis court and stables, the lodge also has a large swimming pool and spa area and is powered entirely by solar energy. The lodge's own farm produces the fruit and vegetables served in the excellent restaurant.
Location
Between the Kalahari Desert to the east and the Khomas Mountains to the west, Gmundner Lodge lies just south-east of Windhoek. The International Airport is only a 40-minute drive away. The lodge is therefore ideal for a relaxed start or end to your Namibian safari. Gmundner is also easy to reach by air, as the lodge has its own helicopter aircraft, heliport and airstrip.
Wildlife
Zebra, giraffe, kudu antelope, wildebeest, meerkat and ostrich can be found on a game drive. However, safaris are not top priority at Gmundner Lodge (there are too few animals in the area), but rather the beautiful accommodation and everything it has to offer.
Activities
Game drives in the private area, sundowner drives, e-biking, tennis, archery, a riding lesson and farm tour are activities that are included in each stay. Horse riding, ceramics and painting courses, golf and treatments at the Gmundner Spa are available for an additional charge.
