Kazile Island Lodge
Bwabwata NP, Caprivi
Accommodation
Kazile Island Lodge is situated on a private island on the banks of the Kwando River, within the heart of KAZA. Kazile together with its sister Nambwa Tented Lodge are the only lodges to be uniquely situated within the Bwabwata National Park.
The Lodge offers 13 Meru tents nestled within a Mangostene forest. The tents overlook the Kwando River as well as the expansive floodplains between the island and the famous horseshoe bend. All tents come with twin beds, en-suite bathroom and an outside deck.
Location
At Kongola, turn off the main road B8 onto the C49 and follow the road for about 7km until you reach the turn-off to the lodge, which is signposted on the road. After 2.5km on a sandy road (2x4) you reach the Kazile parking lot from where guests are transferred to the lodge by boat (5 minutes).
Wildlife
Animals that may be encountered at Kazile include elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, hyena, sable and roan antelope, lechwe and even wild dog and cheetah.
On a boat trip, the guide looks out for the rare and shy sitatunga, which is often seen here. The river is also home to many crocodiles and hippos.
Activities
The lodge offers game drives in Bwabwata National Park and boat cruises on the Kwando River and its back waters. Guided bush walks with an armed ranger and a visit to the Mayuni traditional village and craft market are offered as well. Activities are extra.
