Tsondab Valley
Solitaire
Accommodation
Tsondab Valley Lodge was built in an exceptionally beautiful valley close to Solitaire. The lodge is family-run and offers five bungalows and three camp sites. The en-suite bungalows are robustly built with high ceilings and thick outer walls, which shield against heat and strong winds. The bungalows feature a roof terrace which is accessed by an outer staircase, perfect for a sundowner on the roof or for a night under the stars.
Location
Tsondab Valley is a private Nature Reserve of 170 km². Bordering the Namib Naukluft Park on two sides, the Reserve’s varied landscape impresses with a combination of the red Namib dunes and typical African Camelthorn Savannah. It is a perfect hideaway for nature friends and desert lovers.
The drive from Sesriem takes about two hours and from Swakopmund about four hours. The entrance gate is located on the T-junction where the D1275 joins the C14. It is another 18km from the gate to the lodge on gravel roads and takes about 30 minutes. Solitaire, known for its nostalgic shop and petrol station, is 9km from the entrance gate.
Activities
Scenic nature drives for sunrise and sunset are offered on request. Several options for shorter and longer walks are available, of which the hide to the hidden canyon, a 50m deep and approximately 2 km long canyon, proves particularly popular. On request a vehicle will pick guests up to avoid the return hike to the lodge.
Good to know
Tsondab offers several scenic flights over the desert dunes of the Namib and along the Atlantic coast. Reservations should be made in advance.
