Cormoran Lodge
Kibuye, Lake Kivu
Accommodation
Occupying an enviable position on the shores of Lake Kivu, the small and charming Cormoran Lodge offers just seven rooms made entirely of wood and stone. The raised chalets afford spectacular views of the huge lake in Rwanda’s Western Province; some of them even have views of the active Nyiragongo Volcano in the neighbouring Congo.
The lodge’s panorama restaurant and its rooms (en-suite with TV, HiFi and fridge) are all furnished in a rustic and authentic style. A steep path leads down to a private beach where loungers and towels lie waiting.
Location
Lake Kivu forms the border between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and sits nestled in the Albertine Rift some 1500 m above sea level. This deep blue lake is roughly 1.5 times the size of canton Zurich and ca. 500 m deep. Kibuye is Rwanda’s beach resort and is situated around 60 km west of Kigali within driving distance of Nyungwe Forest and Volcanoes National Park. Cormoran Lodge is perched on the steep banks of the lake.
The lodge is located approximately 4 hours’ drive from Nyungwe and 4.5 hours’ drive from Ruhengeri in Volcanoes National Park.
