Desroches Island
Seychellen
Accommodation
The Desroches Island Resort has a young, modern style and is located on the coral island of the same name. The main building and most of the rooms are located on the west-facing Sunset Beach and the south-facing Coral Beach. The two beaches are separated by a small spit of land where the Lighthouse Restaurant, Spa and Yoga Center are situated. On the other side of the airstrip, residences and private villas have been built, some of which are rented out to guests by the owners through Four Seasons.
The Sunset Beach Suites (pictures of the suites) are located directly on Sunset Beach, both to the left and right of the main building, and have a large garden facing the sea and a private, free-standing pool with sala / lounging area. The suites are suitable for two people, but offer enough space for families with two children. The two-bedroom Desroches Suite (pictures of the Desroches Suite) and the Sunset View Pool Villas fill the gap between the last Sunset Beach Suite and the Lighthouse. The Sunset View Pool Villas all have private beach access, a beautiful garden with lounge chairs, hammock and a freestanding pool with sala / lounging area. The villa is generously designed with king bed, en-suite bathroom and indoor/outdoor shower and an upstairs balcony. Finally, the Ocean View Pool Villas are located on Coral Beach and are similar in design to the Sunset View Pool Villas, but come without the upstairs balcony.
The Beach Pool Villas and the residences are lined up on the eastern side of the island. They are similar in design to the other villas but have the pool either on the side or behind the house. For larger families, the Presidential Villa could be a consideration.
Guests are treated to culinary delights at the Claudine Restaurant by the main building and at the Lightouse Restaurant, which features a great little bar on the upper floor. For smaller snacks, we recommend the Dehli or the beautifully furnished bar by the main pool, a great location to enjoy the wonderful view over the ocean, especially delightful in the evenings.
Location
Desroches Island is the main island of the Amirante islands which are part of the Outer Islands of the Seychelles. The distance to the main island Mahe is about 230km, or 35 minutes by plane. The flights are managed by IDC who maintain the concrete airstrip on Desroches.
Largely unexplored and untouched, the Amirantes are a natural marine sanctuary. The island is 6 km long and 1,5 km wide and is sorrounded by 14 km untouched white beaches. The island can be explored by bike, ideally bring a basket with picnic and enjoy one of the many secluded beaches in the north of the island. The road first crosses the airstrip to the IDC Village and from there it continues in a beautiful palm tree forest. Some side roads lead to the beach where SUPs, kayaks, bath towels, deck chairs and even showers are provided. North Point, Aquarium and Reef End are all worth a visit.
Activities
Protected from commercial fishing practices and 230 km from Mahe Seychelles, Desroches offers one of the best scuba diving in Seychelles. Best time for diving is October to March. In addition to diving, Desroches also offers deep-sea fishing and boat trips around the island. Other activities include cycling, kayaking and snorkeling. The resort also has a fitness room and a yoga pavilion where a range of weekly classes is offered. A colony of giant tortoises can be visited daily on guided nature walks.
For families a childcare service is available during the day with various activities such as cooking, feeding turtles and fishing.
