Gorah Elephant Camp
Addo Elephant Park
Accommodation
Gorah Elephant Camp owns a private 5000-hectare concession in Addo Elephant Park that is open exclusively to guests of the camp.
Beside the manor house, continually restored and updated since its construction in 1856, sit eleven spacious and beautifully appointed rooms with private verandas and sweeping views of the plains to the front. Built in the typical turn-of-the-century colonial style, this stately house transports guests back to this very era.
Location
Situated 75 km east of Port Elizabeth, Addo Elephant Park is accessed by car in about an hour. Today it covers an area of 180'000 hectares, but there are plans to extend this to 264’000 hectares and include areas of coastline. The park is currently Big 5 territory – after the extension it will become a Big 7 park, with the addition of whale and white shark.
As this is a national park, everyone is allowed to undertake game drives here in their own vehicle. Although Gorah Elephant Camp is situated in the main section of the park, it is also located in its own private concession, which means there is nothing to disturb guests’ wonderful wilderness experience.
Wildlife
When the region was declared a national park in 1931, it was home to just sixteen elephants. Today, Addo Elephant Park is the preferred dwelling place of 550 elephants – and buffalo, lion, leopard, black rhino, hyena and various species of antelope including eland, kudu and zebra.
Activities
The camp’s guides are passionate about sharing their knowledge of the landscape they live in and its wildlife. Game drives are possible both in the private concession and the further reaches of the park.
Guided bushwalking and horse riding trips are also available.
