Kanonkop House
Knysna, Garden Route

Accommodation
Kanonkop House is owned and managed by the Conyers family. Kanonkop House has breathtaking views of the Knysna lagoon and the giant sandstone cliffs dominating the entrance to the Indian Ocean (the famous ‘Knysna Heads’). The grounds at Kanonkop House include a swimming pool, sundeck, outdoor lounge, terrace and bar.

All six rooms are individually decorated. Two garden rooms overlook the swimming pool and are named No Matata and Sivuyile. The three Luxury Lagoon View Rooms are part of the main building, Sunbird Room and Forest Room are located on the lower floor, Paradise Room on the upper floor with fantastic views over Knysna Lagoon. The Selwyn Suite is the Penthouse suite with two private balconies and panoramic views of the lagoon.

The main building includes the breakfast room, the bar and safe parking. Should you wish to have dinner, please ask the receptionist for advise, most Knysna restaurants can be reached in a five-minute drive.

Location
Knysna is a town on the Garden Route built on the shores of a large lagoon.

The Lagoon, more accurately defined as an estuary, has five fresh water rivers flowing in from the surrounding Outeniqua Mountains meeting with the surge of sea water from the Indian Ocean through the mighty headlands – known as the 'Knysna Heads' - the grand sandstone cliffs towering above the entrance to the Knysna Lagoon.

Kanonkop House has an elevated position on top of a hill. The road to Kanonkop House is steep and winding, but once you reach the top you are rewarded with fantastic view of the lagoon and Knysna Heads.

Plettenberg is only a thirty-minute drive away.

Activities
The hotel will advise on boat trips and other activities in the area. Some of the best golf courts in South Africa are close by (Knysna Golf Club, Simola, Pezula, Plettenberg Bay Country Club, Goose Valley, and many more are located around George, e.g. Fancourt).

Two dramatic sea cliffs guard the entrance to the lagoon from the ocean. The Eastern Head has a lookout with spectacular views of the lagoon, Leisure Isle and Knysna. The Western Head is primarily a privately owned nature reserve reached only by ferry – Featherbed Nature Reserve. Four-hour excursions depart daily from the Knysna Waterfront.

Good to know
Oysters are a regional delicacy and the locals celebrate the fact with a 10-day Oyster Festival, which takes place here in July.
