Built in 1905, Uplands Homestead is an old farmhouse that has been brought bang up to date. It can only be booked on an exclusive basis by families or groups of friends (max. 6 guests).

Uplands Homestead offers three separate and exceedingly charming rooms, each with its own large bath and balcony/terrace. Although retaining most of its original furniture, its inviting interior offers all of life’s modern comforts. The farmhouse’s secluded and peaceful location means guests can do as they please without being disturbed. Uplands Homestead comes with its own team, including a chef and private guide with vehicle. Its large swimming pool is a hit with adults and kids alike during the hot season.

Situated in the Eastern Cape near Port Elizabeth, Kwandwe Private Game Reserve is 22’000 hectares of pure, undisturbed wilderness. The reserve is private and only open to Kwandwe guests, thus an utterly private experience is guaranteed. The Great Fish River flows for a distance of 30 km through the reserve.

The reserve is accessed in approximately 2 hours by road from Port Elizabeth. Alternatively, guests may choose to take a light aircraft to Kwandwe Airstrip. If arriving in a private vehicle, guests leave their car at Heatherton Towers, the reserve’s car park, before being transferred by safari vehicle to the lodge.

Kwandwe is home to the Big 5 (both black and white rhino, elephant, lion, buffalo and leopard), as well as cheetah, kudu, springbok, eland antelope, giraffe, wildebeest and gemsbok.

The meaning of Kwandwe in isiXhosa is “Place of the Blue Crane”, and this reserve is home to a population of South Africa’s rare national bird.

Morning, evening and night game drives, guided bushwalking, fishing, bush breakfast and/or dinner are on offer.

Sightseeing flights are also available at extra cost.

Kwandwe Private Game Reserve is free of malaria.
