Little Madikwe
Madikwe Game Reserve

Accommodation
Little Madikwe is part of Madikwe Hills and can be booked on a fully exclusive basis for a family. Welcoming children of all ages, Little Madikwe's friendly employees will keep the younger guests occupied with insect and animal track searches, face painting, cake baking and lots of other fun activities.

Little Madikwe is a house comprising two en-suite bedrooms and a lounge separated by a dining area. All rooms are connected to a large veranda and swimming pool. Glass doors leading onto the veranda can be fully opened, affording guests, if they’re lucky, an excellent view of elephant walking right past the house. Little Madikwe offers space for four adults or two adults and three children. However, two additional, adjacent suites can be added for larger families. The lodge has its own entrance and comes with a private service team, guide and vehicle.

Location
Covering 75’000 hectares, Madikwe Game Reserve sits on the Botswana border in the north of South Africa. The park can be reached by road from Johannesburg or the Waterberg region in 3.5 hours.

The park has two airstrips, one in the western part and one in the eastern part. The park can be reached by air from Johannesburg in 55 minutes.

Situated in a rather private valley with little to no traffic, Madikwe Hills sits in the park’s northeast.

Wildlife
Madikwe was newly established in 1991 when the land was purchased from white farmers and populated with hundreds of animals from all over Africa. Known as ‘Operation Phoenix’, this undertaking went down in South Africa’s history as an example of how farmland can be put to alternative use, earning both money through tourism and providing a necessary habitat for wildlife.

The grazed pastures are recovering slowly but surely. The region, however, primarily comprises Kalahari sand and lacks high trees. Nevertheless, it is varied enough to support the Big 5 and many other species of animal. Today, Madikwe is home to elephant, rhino, buffalo, cheetah, hyena, lion, wild dog, zebra, giraffe and various species of antelope and bird – to name but a few.

Activities
The lodge offers game drives and bushwalking (for over 16s). Guests at Little Madikwe enjoy the full attention of a private guide and can plan the day as they wish.

Good to know
Madikwe Game Reserve is free of malaria.
