Makakatana Bay Lodge is privately set in a dune forest, where it is hidden just meters away from the waters edge of the banks of the Lake St Lucia.

Guests at Makakatana Bay Lodge are accommodated in 6 bright and spacious suites. Three of these are set in the dune forest and are frequented by friendly warthog, red duiker, nyala, bush babies, birds and hippo! The Honeymoon suite is situated privately with views out onto a vlei.

Large windows and terrace doors as well as mosquito gauze screen doors slide open onto private viewing decks. The rooms are air-conditioned / heated, have en-suite bathroom and toilet, fridges, telephone, tea & coffee facilities and outdoor showers.

Makakatana Bay Lodge is located inside iSimangaliso Wetland Park on the shores of Lake St Lucia, approximately 30km north of the St.Lucia town.

iSimangaliso / Greater St Lucia Wetland Park was South Africa’s first world heritage site. It encompasses several lakes, swamps, lagoons but also dunes, beaches and coral reefs and its marine life. It also protects a large population of crocodile and hippo.

Morning and afternoon game drives, night drives, boat safaris, and day trips to the coast of the Indian Ocean. Within the iSimangaliso Wetland Park the animals found inlcude: Elephant, Rhino, Buffalo, Leopard, Hyena, Wildebeest, Zebra, Giraffe, Hippo, Crocodile and many other types of antelope.

Guests who wish to see the Big-5 are taken on a safari to Hluhluwe iMfolozi Game Reserve which is a 50min drive from the lodge.
