Morukuru Owner's House
Madikwe Game Reserve

Accommodation
Morukuru combines a private concession for exclusive use by its guests, stunning accommodation for families or groups of friends and excellent all-round service to offer a truly first-class product. It is ideal for guests who appreciate the benefits of a private concession, yet still have access to Madikwe Game Reserve’s general area. There are 3 privates houses, the Farm House, the Owner's House and the River House.

Nestled side-by-side on the banks of a small river, Owner's House and River House are located some 15 minutes’ drive from Farmhouse. Each house occupies various levels and offers lots of outdoor space and a private pool. Both houses are only available for exclusive booking by groups or families. Owner’s House sleeps 4 guests (2 en-suite bedrooms). Both houses are tastefully furnished using vibrant African colours. Delighted to accommodate special requests, our chef conjures up homemade delights in each house’s respective kitchen.

Location
Covering 75’000 hectares, Madikwe Game Reserve sits on the Botswana border in the north of South Africa. The park can be reached by road from Johannesburg or the Waterberg region in 3.5 hours.

The park has two airstrips, one in the western part and one in the eastern part. The park can be reached by air from Johannesburg in 55 minutes.

Morukuru has its own private concession within the Madikwe Game Reserve, which is only accessible by its guests. The concession is situated in the reserve’s southwest. Transfer time from airstrip to camp is approximately 40 minutes.

Wildlife
Madikwe was newly established in 1991 when the land was purchased from white farmers and populated with hundreds of animals from all over Africa. Known as ‘Operation Phoenix’, this undertaking went down in South Africa’s history as an example of how farmland can be put to alternative use, earning both money through tourism and providing a necessary habitat for wildlife.

The grazed pastures are recovering slowly but surely. The region, however, primarily comprises Kalahari sand and lacks high trees. Nevertheless, it is varied enough to support the Big 5 and many other species of animal. Today, Madikwe is home to elephant, rhino, buffalo, cheetah, hyena, lion, wild dog, zebra, giraffe and various species of antelope and bird – to name but a few.

Activities
Morukuru offers game drives, bushwalking and a swimming pool & spa.

Accompanied by an experienced guide, safaris are carried out either in the private concession or the wider Madikwe Game Reserve. Making sure the kids have as memorable a vacation as the adults, our team members are more than happy to keep younger guests entertained with any number of games. All houses come equipped with a TV, iPod dock, DVD and WiFi.

Good to know
Madikwe Game Reserve is free of malaria.
