Rosenhof Country House
Oudtshoorn
Accommodation
The lovely rose garden, which gave Rosenhof its name, leads to 14 stylishly decorated bedrooms, each individually furnished. All rooms provide air-conditioning, satellite television, telephone, mini bar and tea trays. Two of the rooms are Executive Suites which have their own pool, lounge and patio, and tranquil views of the Swartberg Mountain.
Rosenhof Country House provides a swimming pool, a wellness center, a cosy pub and several luxury lounges with fireplaces where visitors can relax and admire works from well-known South African artists. The restaurant offers traditional meals and a good selection of local wines.
Location
Rosenhof Country House is situated on the outskirts of Oudtshoorn en route to the Cango Caves and Ostrich Farms. Oudtshoorn itself is located on the scenic route R62, about a one-hour drive from George, two hours from Plettenberg Bay and roughly 3 hours from Swellendam.
Little Karoo is part of the Karoo, confined by the Swartberg Mountain Range to the north and the Langeberg-Outeniqua Mountains to the south. The area is very dry and differs considerably from the agricultural areas along the main road N2 further south. Situated north of the first mountain range, Little Karoo receives little rain as humidity from the ocean is blocked off by the mountains. The most important villages are Montagu, Barrydale, Ladismith, Calitzdorp, Oudtshoorn and De Rust.
Activities
Rosenhof Country House is situated on the outskirts of Oudtshoorn, about 30km from the famous Cango Caves (limestone caves) and in vicinity of four popular ostrich farms. If you are fond of meerkats, join a local guide on an early sunrise tour to see wild meerkats in their natural environment. Camel rides and hot air ballooning are further options to spend the day.
