Faru Faru
Serengeti, Singita Grumeti Reserve
Accommodation
Faru Faru is modern and chic – nestled under the canopy of high trees it offers an almost tropical holiday feeling, which is sympathetically accentuated by the small sandy beaches deposited around its swimming pools.
Faru Faru comprises nine luxury air-conditioned suites, each with its own bath, open-air shower, lounge, minibar and private veranda with loungers. Beautifully decorated with light-coloured furniture and fitted with cool stone floors, the suites also feature glass front walls that open at the touch of a button.
Families can either book the 2-bedroom suite, situated close to a waterhole at the rear of the lodge and featuring two bedrooms, a lounge and a private plunge pool, or the family suite, which essentially comprises two adjoining standard rooms.
The main building boasts a lounge, bar, library and dining room with an open fireplace near one of the two pools to the front. The complex is built over several levels enclosed by various small stone walls. Tucked away around a corner, the second pool and its sandy beach offer a higher degree of privacy.
Location
Singita Grumeti Reserve is an exclusive private reserve (1'415 km²), which borders the Serengeti Western Corridor. Situated north of the Grumeti River, Faru Faru is ideally situated to experience the annual migration of the wildebeest as it enters the Western Corridor and crosses the Grumeti River.
The camp is accessed by air via Sasakwa Airstrip. The journey from airstrip to Faru Faru takes approximately 50 minutes.
Wildlife
Grumeti Reserve offers everything anybody could ever wish for from a safari, and the variety of wildlife is good all year round. Guests do not need to rely entirely on the migration of wildebeest and zebra, but can enjoy a safari here at any time of the year.
Sasakwa’s grass plains provide a habitat for thousands of topi and represent the Serengeti in all its beauty. Lion, leopard, hyena and cheetah hunt here. Rhino have recently been released into the area. The area around Faru Faru is ideal for spotting elephant as its hilly and wooded environment provides this magnificent resident of the Serengeti with food and protection.
Activities
Daily morning and afternoon game drives, guided bush walks (for guests 16 and older), stargazing, swimming and board games. Massage treatments are available in the spa or in your room. A fully equipped fitness centre is available.
The lodge also organises balloon safaris (additional costs apply).
