Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge
Serengeti West

Accommodation
Perfectly situated on the banks of a tributary of the Grumeti River, in the secluded western parts of the Serengeti National Park, Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge provides luxury accommodation in 10 suites. One of the suites is a Family Suite consisting of two guest suites with an interleading passage (max. 2 adults and 2 children). Each suite features its own private plunge pool. All are beautifully decorated in soft African pastels, with en suite bathrooms, outdoor showers, Wi-Fi, and a commodious veranda.

The main area's decks are perfect for enjoying sundowners overlooking the river and the lodge’s sparkling rim-flow swimming pool provides a view of the seasonal hippo pods below. The proximity to water draws a profusion of wildlife throughout the day and night.

Location
Serengeti National Park's Western Corridor stretches form Seronera west towards Lake Victoria. The permanent waters of the Grumeti and seasonal Mbalageti rivers attract an abundance of wildlife. The lodge is built in the bow of the Kanyanja river and overlooks a pool where hippo and crocodile reside.

The camp is located only five minutes' drive from the local airstrip and sits about 50 km east of Lake Victoria and 450 km west of Arusha.

Wildlife
A visit to Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge is most rewarding during the Great Migration when wildebeest and zebra cross the river on their journeys north or south. Best chances are from May to July and October to November. The crocodiles usually only feed once or twice a year when the migration crosses the Grumeti River and therefore the beasts eagerly await the arrival of the herds.

The lodge's remoter location means less vehicles in the area than e.g. around Seronera. The mobile camps that follow the migration are only present from May to July. Witness large resident prides of lion and an abundance of predators, hyena clans, buffalo, elephant, hippo and herds of plains game. The area also enjoys an annual topi migration from December to February, and the spectacular black-and-white colobus monkeys are found nowhere else in the Serengeti.

Activities
The camp offers game drives and guided nature walks. Balloon trips over the Serengeti, wellness treatments in the comfort of your suite & private yoga sessions are at extra costs. For those looking for an active workout, head to the gym.

Day trip to Lake Victoria (additional costs): A morning game drive through the Serengeti takes guests to the park gate. From here, it is a 20-minute drive to the lake shore, with the option to stop and learn about the work of the Africa Foundation at Lukungu Primary School. On arrival at Lake Victoria, guests can choose to set off on a fishing safari or bird watching excursion in a traditional canoe, pay a visit to the traditional fish market or traditional healer and simply enjoy the magnificent lanscapes and the tranquility of the lake. A picnic lunch will be enjoyed before guests set off on their return journey.

Permanent Camps
Permanent camps do not change location and therefore have a better infrastructure than mobile camps.
Mobile Camps
Mobile camps operate in the Serengeti and change their location two or three times a year following the Great Migration of the wildebeest and zebra. Mobile camps have a simpler, bush-like character. Although the rooms have an en-suite bathroom, there is often no running water in the rooms. Bathrooms are then equipped with a so-called bucket shower that needs to be filled with hot water by the camp team on demand.
