Shu'mata is a Maasai word meaning 'above the clouds'. A fitting name for a camp that was built on top of a hill offering fantastic views over traditional Maasai land and the towering Kilimanjaro in the background. The only seven safari tents are large and comfortable, with en-suite bathrooms and magnificent views in all directions. The rooms are decorated colourfully with Maasai art.

Shu'mata Camp is located west of Kilimanjaro, approximately 2.5 hours from Arusha or 1.5 hours from Kilimanjaro Airport. The Kilimanjaro West area is not a typical safari area and if you are looking for the Big-5, this is not your choice. However, if you want to see a little visited corner of Tanzania in a scarcely developed region populated by Maasai tribes in the old, traditional manner, West Kililmanjaro is the place to go.
