Accommodation
Owner-operated Chundukwa River Lodge offers five River Front Chalets (one is a family room with space for two extra beds) and a 3-bedroom Cottage, all of which are constructed of blockwork and traditional reedwork under thatch, set up on stilts above the river. Every chalet is individually designed - all focus on their unique open-fronted layout with views over the Zambezi River. The decor and furniture has been made by the owners themselves using recycled wood, metal and sustainable reeds. The center of the lodge is open-plan lounge and dining area, thatched with ceiling fans for the hotter months. Good to know
The Victoria Falls change throughout the year depending on water levels of the Zambezi River, wich are largely affected by rainfall much further upstream. The Falls are in peak flow during early May and usually at their lowest at the end of November. From December there is a gradual increase of water until the spray can be seen from 30km away. From August to December much smaller amounts of water flow over the Falls, as the water levels drop, patches of the rock wall become visible. On the upper Zambezi sandbanks and islands are emerging and the flow is moderate. A variety of birds take up residence on the small islands and an abundance of wildlife is coming down to the river to drink.
