Luangwa House is located just five minutes drive from Nkwali Camp. It is situated a little distance away from the river, but close to a waterhole where elephant can be watched wallowing. The house has four rooms, each with its own bath, spread over two floors: Two of the rooms are located on the ground floor and two on the upper floor. The rooms on the upper floor come with a small balcony.
The central area is a lounge, living room and dining room all rolled into one. A plunge pool is located outside and perfect for a cooling dip on those hot days. A long walkway leads out in the direction of the waterhole to a deck where guests can sit and dine while watching the wildlife. The house comes with its own service team, cook and guide.
The architect who built Luangwa House also built Chongwe River House in Lower Zambezi, which is also suitable for families.
A visit to Kawaza Village makes for a fantastic day out and is certainly of great interest to kids. Guests may even spend a night at the village if they wish. Jo Pope and Robin Pope Safaris began the Luangwa Project in 2009 with the aim of founding and supporting schools in the region. Kawaza Village Project is one such project: http://www.projectluangwa.org and http://www.kawaza.org.
Game drives take place around the camp or in the park itself. The park is accessed via pontoon, which is pulled across the river by two men. The park can be driven into from the same spot when the water is low. Alternatively, guests can jump in a motorboat and traverse the river in front of Robin's House before getting straight into a vehicle waiting at the other side.
