Robin's House
South Luangwa National Park
Accommodation
Luangwa House and Robin's House provide the perfect accommodation for families and small groups. The houses come with their own service teams, private guides and private vehicles. Children of all ages are welcome.
Robin's House is situated on the riverbank right next door to Nkwali Camp and is intended for use by families and small groups. It comes with two en-suite bedrooms separated by a lounge/living room. A swimming pool, fire pit and several comfortable loungers are located outside near the river. The house also comes with its own service team, cook and guide.
Location
Robin's House is situated approximately 1 hour from Mfuwe Airport. The road turns left just before the main bridge to South Luangwa National Park and leads south along the river. South Luangwa National Park is situated on the other side of the river. The house is located outside the national park, thus exempt from park regulations - this means activities can be designed with greater flexibility. Both sides of the river are equal when it comes to the abundance of wildlife they offer.
Wildlife
Lion, leopard and hyena are relatively easy to find, wild dog less so. The Luangwa River flows past the front door and plays host to crocodile and hippo. This region is also home to elephant, buffalo, zebra, kudu, impala, puku and a large variety of birdlife, particularly large colonies of bee-eaters.
Activities
The house offers game drives in an open 4x4 vehicle and walks with armed rangers.
A visit to Kawaza Village makes for a fantastic day out and is certainly of great interest to kids. Guests may even spend a night at the village if they wish. Jo Pope and Robin Pope Safaris began the Luangwa Project in 2009 with the aim of founding and supporting schools in the region. Kawaza Village Project is one such project: http://www.projectluangwa.org and http://www.kawaza.org.
Game drives take place around the camp or in the park itself. The park is accessed via pontoon, which is pulled across the river by two men. The park can be driven into from the same spot when the water is low. Alternatively, guests can jump in a motorboat and traverse the river in front of the house before getting straight into a vehicle waiting at the other side.
Good to know
Thornicroft's giraffe, Cookson's wildebeest and Crawshay's zebra are unique to South Luangwa National Park.
