Fundu Lagoon
Pemba Island

Accommodation
Fundu Lagoon pays full homage to the term 'barefoot luxury'. Located on Pemba's western shore in a quite and remote location, the eco-lodge is well hidden in a tropical forest. The lodge was designed to blend in with the surroundings and appeals to visitors who enjoy a natural and untouched setting.
Fundu's 18 thatched rooms are scattered along the shoreline of the beach where pristine forest meets the sea of the Indian Ocean. The eight hillside rooms enjoy an elevated position and are embedded in the tree canopies. Along the beach there are four beachfront rooms, two suites (the beach suite & the jungle suite, that is slightly set back from the beach) with wooden decks and plunge pool, and four superior suites featuring additional lounge, larger plunge pool and extended decks suitable for in-house dining.

The main area includes the reception, the dive center, the restaurant and the long jetty that leads to the Jetty Bar where finest drinks are served. Sandy pathways meander through the forest to link the main area to the rooms and to the infinity pool, spa and pool bar. The views from the pool area are fantastic, a relaxing and secluded oasis offering total relaxation with the spa only steps away. Fundu takes pride of its cuisine and the local, fresh products used for its international and Swahili dishes. Once a week there is a barbecue on the beach and mostly on Sundays tables are set up at the jetty for a celebration of Swahili cuisine and music.

Location
Pemba Island is much less renowned and less frequented than its big sister Zanzibar further south. There are few accommodation options on the serene island of Pemba and Fundu Lagoon is long time favourite.

After arrival at Chaka Chaka airport on Pemba Island, guests are taken by vehicle to a harbour. The transfer over the island takes about 60 minutes. From the harbour to Fundu Lagoon it is a beautiful 15-minute boat ride.

Activities
Fundu Lagoon has its own fully equipped dive centre. Diving around Pemba can be demanding and includes many drift dives. Guests are usually taken by boat to the small Misali island and snorkel or dive from there. Misali Island is surrounded by a 9km reef and cristal clear water.

Further activities include canoe trips among the mangroves, dhow trips (traditional sailing boat), dolphine cruises, deep sea fishing, cultural visits of a village and tours around Pemba.
