Kanga Camp
Mana Pools National Park

Accommodation
The six tents at Kanga Camp all provide en-suite bathroom facilities with outdoor showers and basins overlooking the water hole. One of the tents is the honeymoon with additional bath tub and private seating area that can be used for romantic dinners. This room can be turned into a family room with one double and two twin beds. All rooms are raised on platforms und provide good views of the active waterhole.

The main area has a comfortable lounge, bar and dining area offering uninterrupted views of the waterhole. There is also a splash pool for the hot days.

Kanga Camp is located inside the park and not on the Zambezi like most other camps. If you are keen on canoe safaris, it is best to combine Kanga Camp with a camp closer to the river. Its big draw is the very popular waterhole in front of camp.

Location
Mana Pools National Park is situated in Zambezi Valley, North Zimbabwe, on the border with Zambia. The opposite side of the Zambezi is home to the mountains of the Great African Rift Valley and Lower Zambezi National Park. This section of the Zambezi is renowned for its four large lagoons: Main, Chine, Long and Chisambuk. ‘Mana' actually means ‘four' in the local Shona language.

Kanga Camp can be reached by flying to Harare in Zimbabwe before taking a 1.5-hour light aircraft flight to camp, or in a light aircraft from Victoria Falls (2 hrs).

Wildlife
Mana Pools is renowned for its dense concentration of elephant, buffalo, hippo and crocodile. The winter months are particularly busy, with small and great alike sipping the river water. Such predators as lion, hyena and wild dog are regularly sighted, even cheetah is possible. Leopards are normally only seen after dark.

Please note that rhino, wildebeest and giraffe are not present in the park.

Kanga Camp is located inside the park in an area called Kanga Pan close to Ruckomechi River, about 15km away from the Zambezi. The water hole is very active as it is the only source of water in the area and it does attract a good variety of game that can be best observed from the main area.

Activities
Game drives and walking. Canoeing and fishing can be arranged on special request prior to travel and subject to availability. Long-term stays can also be booked at Chitake Springs through special prior arrangements.

Good to know
If you like, you can spend a night in 'Kanga under the stars', with mosquito net and mattress on a platform about 1km away from the camp.
