The nearest large airport is Buffalo Range Airport, which is accessed by light aircraft from Johannesburg in approximately 2 hours (Mon and Thu only). This is also the place where border formalities are carried out. The authorities generally only open the office for guests arriving at and departing from Singita. Now deserted, Buffalo Range Airport with its huge tarmac runway was once used for international flights.
Malilangwe House is built on a hill in the Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve some 40 minutes’ drive from the airport. The journey passes the village of Chiredzi with its sugar plantations before heading towards Gonarezhou National Park and Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve.
Guests arriving by chartered aircraft can land at Lonestar Airstrip. This is located just 25 minutes’ drive from the house. Border formalities, however, must still be carried out at Buffalo Range Airport. If prepared to walk, visitors can also see the reserve’s various intriguing rock paintings.
A boat trip on the lake makes for a beautiful evening excursion and provides guests with an opportunity to see crocodile, elephant, hippo and, interestingly enough, an abundance of turtles. The boat can also be used for fishing.
Visiting the local community or a school is also a recommended activity. Julius, for example, offers a lively and vivid insight into life in his village.
A trip to Gonarezhou National Park is an ideal excursion for those staying longer.Learn more about these areas
