The camp consists of seven elegantly furnished tents with gauze sliding doors, a glass wood-burner fireplace for the cold winter nights, and an overhead fan for the hot summer days. Each tent has en suite bathroom facilities including flush toilets, an indoor and outdoor shower, as well as a copper slipper-style bathtub.
The main decking area includes split level decking with a separate lounge and dining area, as well as a small splash pool for guests overlooking the “Elephant Pool” and a natural waterhole where herds of game congregate to drink and where guests can relax whilst soaking in the African bush.
Somalisa Acacia Camp is Somalisa's sister camp. With two family units (parents + 2 children) and two standard double tents, it is the perfect place for families or private groups.
Hwange National Park becomes increasingly dry from April to the end of October, when large numbers of game gather round the waterholes (many of them artificial); particularly impressive are the herds of buffalo and elephant. Lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena and wild dog are also regular visitors. November heralds the onset of rain and the park's dusty plains are transformed as if by magic into a sea of green. The animals disperse during this period and are thus more difficult to find.
With over 400 species, the park offers a staggering array of birdlife. Several white rhino have been introduced to the area, but spotting them is far from easy. The rare roan and sable antelope, as well as eland, are also at home here, and the chances of snapping the perfect photo are high.
