Imagine the following setting: delicious breakfast in a beautiful colonial-era mansion and a giraffe is sticking its long neck through the window to be fed treats - daily routine at Giraffe Manor!
Giraffe Manor is famous for its friendly housemates, a herd of habituated Rothschild giraffes, which regularly peer in through the wide windows. With only twelve guest rooms this place is an exclusive and intimate boutique hotel, well suited to a night or two before or after a safari. The 10 rooms and 2 family suites, all en-suite, are split amongst the Historic Manor and the Garden Manor.
As one of Nairobi’s most iconic buildings, Giraffe Manor has extraordinary appeal, that harks back to the 1930s. Elegant interior, lush green gardens, sunny terraces and beautiful courtyards; staying at Giraffe Manor almost feels like walking into the film Out of Africa and indeed, one of the rooms is called after the author Karen Blixen.
The drive from Giraffe Manor to the international airport is about 40 minutes; the drive to the local airport Nairobi Wilson takes about 20 minutes.
Ol Donyo Lodge sits in thick woodland on a gently sloping hillside with vistas over the plains to distant Kilimanjaro. Eight Deluxe Pool Suites offer a blend of contemporary and rustic accommodations. Each room has an en-suite bathroom, outdoor shower and its own plunge pool. No two of the lodge’s suites is exactly the same, but what is consistent is the view to Mount Kilimanjaro as well as star beds atop each of the suites for sleeping under the night sky.
In addition to the Delxue Pool Suites, The Sambu Suite consists of two identical suites with a bathroom each, a star-bed and sharing a common pool and lounge.
The main lodge consists of cozy lounge areas surrounding a large stone fireplace and an open-air bar, expansive veranda, library, curio shop, outdoor campfire and a swimming pool.
The lodge is accessed by scheduled air transfers or private air charters from Nairobi’s domestic Wilson Airport. The road transfer from the airfield to Ol Donyo Lodge takes approx. 30 minutes.
Set on the Mbirikani Group Ranch - owned by 4’000 Maasai and leased by Great Plains Conservation - Ol Donyo Lodge blends contemporary design with the rich culture and history of the native Maasai. The full lease fee as well as a per person conservancy fee goes directly to this community on the understanding that they will ensure the conservation of the ranch and the resident animals.

Angama Mara is perched on the 300 m high ridge of the Great Rift Valley. The name Angama Mara is a Swahili phrase meaning “suspended in mid-air”. Architecture and design unite to give guests the impression that they really are floating somewhere between heaven and earth. The complex offers a breathtaking 180° view of the Maasai Mara Triangle.
The luxurious Angama Mara comprises two separate camps, each with 15 exclusive safari tents and a lounge and restaurant area. Each 70 m2 tent suite boasts an elegant sleeping area, en-suite bathroom and a generous panoramic terrace. The safari-style interior combines modern simplicity with luxurious furnishings. The complex also has a swimming pool, gym and library.
The Angama Mara is set in spectacular surroundings, which featured in several scenes of the film “Out of Africa”. And many will recognise the landscape, one of the most beautiful and wildlife-rich in the whole of Africa, from the film. The camp is a memorable destination, which, in addition to the ultimate Out-of-Africa-romance also offers an exciting blend of nostalgic colonial style and contemporary chic, as well as the finest cuisine and exceptional service.
The Maasai Mara abuts the Serengeti to the north to form the border with Tanzania. The reserve covers an area of approx. 1'510 km² and receives water via the Sand River, the Talek River and, of course, the Mara River.
Mara Nyika Camp is part of the 210 km² private Mara Naboisho Conservancy, which borders the Maasai Mara Game Reserve in the north and serves as a buffer zone for the actual Maasai Mara Game Reserve.
“Nyika” means “Large Plains or Great Plains” and as such Mara Nyika is the perfect sister camp to Mara Plains in the Olare Motorogi Conservancy. While this intimate five tent camp (3 double room, 1 family suite and the Sambuk Suite) is set in a valley, straddling a small stream, the light-coloured canvas tents were designed to sit under the canopy of umbrella thorn trees while still offering guests views out over the bush. Walkways from tents to the main area evoke the feeling of a treehouse under canvas and the camp’s ethic and inspiration is one of exploration and adventure.
Each room consists of three units: lounge, bedroom and bathroom which includes en-suite flush loo, shower (indoor), copper bath tub, double basins and hot and cold running water. The rooms are raised on wooden decks that allow private outdoor dining.
