1 night Boma Guesthouse, Entebbe

Boma Guesthouse is an ideal accommodation for your first (or last) overnight stay in Uganda, as it is located only 6km from Entebbe Airport. The small hotel was formerly a colonial home and is surrounded by a well-kept tropical garden. Rooms are located in the main house and in cottages in the garden. All rooms have their own en-suite bathrooms.

There is a lounge, bar and two different terraces where meals are served. A large swimming pool with sun loungers under shady trees invites you to relax.

The Guesthouse is located in a green and quiet suburb of Entebbe, only about a 10 minute drive from the International Airport.

2 nights Mihingo Lodge, Lake Mburo

Located adjacent to Lake Mburo National Park, Mihingo Lodge is perched high on a rocky kopje and has spectacular views over the vast savannah landscape. Designed to blend in with its fragile surroundings, the twelve thatched-roofed tents are raised on platforms and come with en-suite bathrooms, hot and cold running water, showers and flush loos. Each rooms has its unique charm and character, whether it is nestled in forest, overlooking the lake, perched on a rocky outcrop or located down by the water hole. An infinity pool overlooks the valley below where buffalo, eland, impala, warthogs, bush buck and zebra can be seen at the waterhole.

Location
With 370 km², Lake Mburo National Park is a relatively small park. Lake Mburo, located in the middle of the park, forms a wetland that includes a 50km long swamp area and 14 other lakes, that are all supplied with water from the Ruizi River.

Mihingo Lodge is located close to Lake Mburo National Park. The drive to the park entrance takes about 30 minutes. The drive to Bwindi Forest takes about 6 hours, to Entebbe about 4 hours, Queen Elizabeth NP about 3,5 hour and Kibale Forest 5 hours.

By Vehicle Travel by road to Chameleon Hill
2 nights Chameleon Hill, Lake Mutanda, Bwindi

Stone stairs leads down from the parking lot to the main building of Chameleon Lodge, which is painted in bright colors. A cozy restaurant and terrace await you, with a spectacular panorama of Lake Mutanda with its small islands and hills in the distance.

Steps continue down to the ten colorful chalets. All rooms are lined up along the hillside and offer wonderful vistas of the lake. The stone chalets are equipped with en-suite bathrooms and a small covered veranda. The lodge is at around 2,000 meters above sea level and the steep steps up to the main house require some fitness, especially if this is your first stop in Uganda and you still need to get used to the altitude.

Location
Chameleon Hill Lodge is located south of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. From Kisoro airstrip a bumpy gravel road leads along Lake Mutanda to the lodge. The journey is the reward - this saying really applies to this wonderful overland route.

Travel time from Entebbe to Chameleon Hill Lodge would be a good 10 hours, too far for a single day's drive. Flights from Entebbe take 1 hour 15 minutes to Kisoro Airstrip. The road transfer from the airstrip to the lodge is just over an hour.

Transport Mode Gorilla Trekking Bwindi / Nkuringo
Gorilla trekking starts in the morning from the rangers headquarter and can take as little as two hours or as much as six hours, depending on where the gorillas are. Only 8 guests are allowed per gorilla group and the maximum time spent with the gorillas is strictly 1 hour. The walk may include trekking through dense forest, sometimes including steeper climbs and guests need a bit of endurance and good footgear but will be rewarded with a life changing experience. In the southern sector of Bwindi you have the choice of trekking at Nkuringo or Rushaga.

Transport Mode Trekking the Bwindi Forest
Instead of a tedious seven-hour drive around the park by vehicle, you will hike from the southern part of Bwindi directly to the northern Buhoma sector. You will be driven to the village of Nteko, from where the trek begins. The trekking takes about four hours and is accompanied by a ranger and a guide who will explain flora & fauna and of course point out the beautiful birds. Keep your eyes open for chimpanzees - they also live in good numbers in the Bwindi Forest. Shortly before reaching Buhoma, the Munyaga waterfalls are worth a little detour. Buhoma Lodge and Gorilla Forest Lodge are located conveniently right at the end of the trek, all other accommodation are situated outside the park in the village.
2 nights Buhoma Lodge, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Buhoma Lodge offers eight comfortable wooden chalets with en-suite bathrooms, some of which also provide bathtubs. A few rooms are elevated on the hillside and guests have to climb steep stairs to reach them. On the private balconies, guests can enjoy a cup of coffee and the beautiful view of the foliage of Bwindi Forest. Guests who are not good with climbing stairs need to book a room that is lower down.

The main building has two floors; restaurant, lounge and bar are located on the upper floor.

Location
Buhoma Lodge is located on the edge of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in the northern part of the National Park, in the so-called Buhoma sector. The lodge neighbours Sanctuary Gorilla Lodge, an ideal location for mountain gorilla trekking and bird watching within the National Park.

Travel time to Buhoma Lodge from Entebbe is around nine hours. Flights from Entebbe to Kihihi Airstrip take about one hour and from there it is only a one-hour drive to the lodge.

3 nights Ishasha Wilderness Camp, Queen Elizabeth National Park

Ishasha Wilderness Camp is a classic safari camp with ten guest tents that all feature en-suite bathroom, shower and running water. The camp was built in a romantic location on the banks of Ntungwe River under shady trees. Guests who do not expect too much luxury and enjoy a typical safari camp in the middle of the wilderness will love this camp.

The open main building comes with a large dining and lounge area. Down by the river is a fire pit where guests can sit around the open fire in the evening and enjoy a drink.

Location
Ishasha Wilderness Camp is located in the southern Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Bwindi Forest can be reached in about two hours. The northern section of the Queen Elizabeth National Park (Mweya Peninsula, Mweya Lodge) in about 3 hrs, depending on the road conditions. Kihihi Airstrip is about 45 minutes from the camp.

Transport Mode Sundowner at Ishasha
After your evening game drive, enjoy a sundowner in the park overlooking the savannah of Ishasha. A Gin Tonic never tastes better than when accompanied by the setting African sun.

Transport Mode Boat trip on Kazinga Channel
The 36km long Kazinga Canal connects Lake Edward and Lake George, named after Queen Victoria's son, Edward VII and his successor, George V. The boat trips start from the Mweya Peninsula and take about two hours, travelling along both banks of the river. With a bit of luck, you will see many elephants and buffalos on the river banks, as well as hippos, crocodiles and many birds. You also pass a fishing village with very beautiful coloured boats.

2 nights Primate Lodge, Kibale Forest

Primate Lodge is one of the few accommodations located within Kibale Forest. The nine luxury cottages (3 x Twin and 6 x Double with King-Size bed) are well spread in the forest around the main building and offer a lot of privacy. The cottages are constructed from local materials, have en-suite bathrooms with showers and private verandas. Last, but not least, the Honeymoon Cottage is a two-story house with a lounge on the lower floor and bedroom with super large king-size bed plus outside terrace on the upper floor.

The main building itself includes a lounge, bar, dining area and a garden where you can relax and listen to the sounds of the forest.

Location
Kibale National Park (795 km²) is home to 13 different primate species. Especially the chimpanzees are a magnet for many visitors to Uganda. About 1,500 chimpanzees live in Kibale Forest, as well as the largest population of colobus monkeys in East Africa.

Primate Lodge is centrally located close to the main entrance to the park respectively the ranger post, which is also the starting point for the treks.

Transport Mode Chimpanzee Trekking at Kibale Forest
Kibale National Park (795 km²) is home to 13 different primate species. Especially the chimpanzees are a magnet for many visitors to Uganda. About 1,500 chimpanzees live in Kibale Forest, as well as the largest population of colobus monkeys in East Africa.

You will visit one of these chimpanzee groups today. The trek starts at Kanyanchu Visitor Centre and usually takes two to four hours of easy trekking with your rangers. The actual time with the chimpanzees is limited to one hour.

Transport Mode Bigodi Wetland Walk
Rich in biodiversity and scenic beauty, the Bigodi Wetlands Sanctuary is an interesting option to learn more about the fauna and flora of Uganda. A 4,5km long walk will take you through this important wildlife corridor of Kibale Forest. The walk is easy and will take up to 3h. You are accompanied by a local guide.

Transport Mode Visit Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary
Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is worth a stop on the way between Entebbe (3h) and Murchison (2h). We stop here to stretch our legs and learn more about these fascinating animals. The sanctuary is home to over twenty rhinos and you are taken on a short hike with a ranger to track some of the rhinos. It is the only place in Uganda where rhinos live freely. The animals are guarded day and night and will one day be released back into one of the big parks.
